Described
by Arturo Toscanini as “the greatest voice of the 20th century”,
Mario Lanza was born Alfredo Arnoldo Cocozza on January 31, 1921 in
Philadelphia. On 02/19/51, Mario
Lanza remade the two rejected songs from the 8/26/50 recording session, “Because”
and “For You Alone”. Both the conductor and the location were changed and
the end result was two approved recordings both done in one take.
